The agency recorded 0.3% decrease in traffic fatalities from 2021 to 2022
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released preliminary data for much of 2022’s traffic fatalities, comparing them with 2021’s data to calculate likely outcomes for the full report that will be released later this year. The fourth quarter of 2022 saw a slight decline in traffic fatalities in comparison to the other quarters, bringing the currently recorded amount of fatalities on the road to 42,795 in 2022. This is a 0.3% decrease from the 42,939 fatalities recorded in 2021. The NHTSA credits this decline to the release of the National Roadway Safety Strategy in January 2022.
“We continue to face a national crisis of traffic deaths on our roadways, and everyone has a role to play in reversing the rise that we experienced in recent years,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “Through our National Roadway Safety Strategy, we’re strengthening traffic safety across the country, and working toward a day when these preventable tragedies are a thing of the past.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Buttigieg to be discerning as he heads the Transportation Department.
- For Executive Director Jack Danielson as he oversees the NHTSA.
- For U.S. transportation officials as they evaluate the road fatality data and statistics.
